The Smithton PTO would like to welcome back the teachers/staff/students for another great school year. We have many fun events and activities planned already for the year and we will be adding more in the next few months.
We would also like to welcome our new administration, Mrs. Vicki Norton, Principal, and Dr. Steve York, Superintendent. We look forward to a very productive working relationship with both of you. Thank you both for being supportive of our orgranization and our ideas.
What is Smithton PTO?
The Smithton Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) was reformed last year in order to support the teachers and students of Smithton CCSD #130. We hold events throughout the school year to raise money for the school. We are parent volunteers that plan, organize and run events either at the school or off site at various locations, depending on the event. We are here to support the teachers who request special items for their classrooms that the school does not fund. These are items that can help make teaching easier, educational classroom projects, and special needs for the classrooms. Our meetings are open to anyone that would like to attend and be involved. We meet once a month in the school cafeteria. Watch your WWE's for dates and times. Have You Purchased A Calendar?
The PTO created a calendar for the 08-09 year with all the school days that we have off, school board meetings, community events, sporting dates, etc. If you have not purchased one and would like to, please stop in the office, or contact Michelle Held. The cost is $10, and the proceeds help fund teacher requests. The calendar is full our students and teachers. We look forward to having all the children in next year's edition.
Anyone can submit photos that are taken this year for next year's calendar. More information will be coming out in the WWE's.
Childcare is Available for PTO Meetings!
Our monthly meetings offer child care for a small fee. Dana Cooley is our Child Care Coordinator. Her Girl Scout troop has been certified through Memorial Hospital for babysitting. During our PTO meetings, your child will do an activity and play games. The cost is $3.00 per child. No infants please. The fee covers the cost of the activity and the rest helps the troop with their fieldtrips to earn badges.

Market Day
The PTO started selling Market Day last year to help raise funds for our school. Market Day is restaurant quality food that you prepare at home for family meals. Once a month a new flyer will come home in the WWE, you then have approximately two weeks to place your order, either on-line or by filling out the flyer. If you order from the flyer, just send it in to the office and a PTO member will enter your order. On the delivery date listed on the flyer, come to the school cafeteria between 5:30-6:30pm and pick up your items. If you order on-line, you may pay on-line or you can choose to pay when you pick it up. All checks are made out to Lemonade, Inc. About two weeks after each sale, Market Day sends us a check for a percentage of our total sales. The total profit the PTO made from all of last year's sales was: $1,400.00.
This is an easy way to help your school and you receive great food.

Fun Spot Skating - September 19th, 2008, 1pm - 3pm
The rink will be open exclusively to Smithton students/parents/friends. It's a great time for new skaters to learn. Watch for more information in the WWE's closer to the date.
Scrapbooking Day - November 8th, 2008, 9am - 5pm
Tell your friends and family that LOVE to stamp and scrapbook about our day. Registration will start in October. Watch the WWE for more details.
Dairy Queen Night - November 17th, 2008, 4pm - 9pm
Come to the Freeburg Dairy Queen and enjoy some cool treats and hot eats AND support the PTO.
